My name is Joel and I am obsessed with building unique, and innovative front-end applications and components. I graduated from RIT in 2004 with a degree in New Media Design. My degree taught me not only design principles, but how to take the design and make it interactive through code.
I love JavaScript/AJAX combined with HTML5 to create responsive and dynamic web pages. I also enjoy using JavaScript to create interaction and animation. For example, my social icons in my footer... Subtle but amazing, right?
I enjoy JavaScript mainly because I feel like it is the total package. JavaScript is mobile friendly, cross-browser, easy to write, and allows for animation. I can't even describe the power of AJAX, I love using jQuery's shorthand version of .load() to place one page into another. I despise non-symantical code, so I try as much as possible to keep my code making sense and as compliant as possible.
I am pretty dangerous with PHP, and MySQL, but my first love is front-end development. This site is built with a lot of dynamic PHP, and everything can be updated rather simply.
Sometimes I consider myself struggling whether to call myself a developer or designer. I really have a true passion for design, and aesthetics are extremely important to me. I think this site showcases both my design and development skills.
I am currently employed at Schoolwires as Director of Creative Services. I started at Schoolwires in 2004 as their first Interactive Designer. My previous titles at Schoolwires include Sr. Interactive Designer, Manager, and Creative Director.
I am always looking for a challenge, so if you have a job and you need an amazing front-end guy, feel free to hit me up. I have tons of experience working with clients, and telecommuting has always been part of my life so look me up!
